Creative Reality Selection - Part One
"Sorcerers say that we are inside a bubble. It is a bubble into which we are placed at the moment of our birth. At first the bubble is open, but then it begins to close until it has sealed us in. That bubble is our perception. We live inside that bubble all of our lives. And what we witness on it's round walls is our own reflection. The thing reflected is our own view of the world. That view is first a description, which is given to us at the moment of our birth until all our attention is caught by it and the description becomes a view (ie:reality)."

Our
earthling bodies are vessels for more than blood and
bone. We contain the miracle of physiological life (as
amazing as that is) and a more subtle, ethereal spirit
that we think of as our true self or "soul".
This metaphysical essence tethers our corporeal bodies,
which have a clearly defined time-line/life-span, to the
timeless knowledge and wisdom of eternity.

Like the ancient shaman, the modern techno-shaman (Tek-Gnostic) acts as a conduit for the community at large. She/he is the go-between for his/her tribe and the sublime mystery of alternate realities. These "non-ordinary" realities are well-springs of inspiration and creativity. Not everyone in the tribe has the time or talent "dip their bucket" into the deep well of non-ordinary reality. They must rely on the power and process of their shaman. A shaman's power is her/his ability to achieve "Gnosis". A shaman's process is his/her "Technology". Once our shaman has realized his/her goal, the job becomes getting home without spilling the bucket and sharing useful information with kin and clan.
The ability to share information with the tribe traditionally took the form of story telling or ritual. In these post-modern times, stories are most often told through a luminous screen. The most effective live form of modern ritual is performance art or music. Since the well of organized religion has all but dried up, the role of shaman has been inherited by artists who use word, music or dance to convey feeling and meaning. When the ancient muse descends, a artist may describe this phenomena in terms of inspiration.
The process of being inspired may also be looked upon as Creative Reality Selection. Inspiration in and of itself is an altered state of consciousness. The Artist goes after and is gifted with inspiration that is often experienced as coming from without (muse visitation). This event induces a mind-shift in the individual, as well as in groups. For example, whole concert halls of enthused participants may be transported to another mind-space via a inspiring performance. Together, performer and audience select their reality for the evening.
In doing so, these large groups of concert goers have formed a community. That is, they have communed for the evening in a event that has emotional significance. Together, the audience has enjoyed and been moved by music, dance, theater or any artistic performance. Depending on the skill of the performer's craft, members of the audience experience "emotional processing", that allows for emotional and personal growth. That is, the story that the performer tells has significant meaning (ie: life lesson) for the audience. Once experienced, a critical number of the audience will want to participate in this group-mind-shift again.
Those who choose to re-experience the mind-shift via the same medium, may attend the artist's performances multiple times. These repeat attendees may be described as fans (...as in fanning the flame). In doing so, the art (or artist's) fans have formed a community of like-minded people. This community has as it's foundation a shared interest not only in the art, but in the mind-shift. Over time this community becomes a tribe.
